In my use case, I have task related to shipments. the shipments have tracking numbers that are basically links to tracking portals. I would expect that any text that start with HTTP should be assumed to be a link and be treated that way. Perhaps this is not a bug but a missing feature, but I think every other task manager I have ever used has this ability, so it feels like a bug to me 
If its not possible to implement this for the standard text field, then there should be a hyperlink type added
Definitely needed…my team uses this daily on our Trello…they will be disappointed if they have to copy and paste link if we decide to onboard
hyperlinks in description are auto-detected while if a hyperlink is added to a text custom field. The field shows an open in new tab button
